LARDY CAKE () - A very rich English cake made from white bread dough with lard, sugar, mixed fruit, peel and spices. Although particularly associated with Wiltshire, there are many traditional recipes from other English counties. In the days of old when sugar was an expensive commodity, Lardy Cake was only made on special occasions such as Harvest Time, and many versions are now called Harvest Cake. The first known reference to it comes in "Magnum Bonum" (1879) by the Hampshire novelist Charlotte Yonge, she wrote "hot tea and lardy cake tendered for his refreshment".

LEMON CURD () - A creamy mixture made from juice (usually lemon, lime or orange), sugar, butter and egg yolks. The ingredients are cooked together until the mixture becomes quite thick. When cool, the lemon curd becomes thick enough to spread and is used as a topping for breads..
